Admission of three BJB students cancelled for giving fake disability certificates

BHUBANESWAR: The higher education department on Thursday cancelled admission of three undergraduate (UG) students from the BJB Autonomous College Bhubaneswar after they were found to have submitted fake persons with disabilities (PwD) certificates.

While a girl student had taken admission in the academic year 2021-22, other two including a girl were admitted into UG course in the academic year 2019-20. Earlier, admission of eight students at this college were cancelled for the same reason.

This college had filed a complaint with the Badagada police here on April 5 against eight students for taking admission in the premier college by submitting fake disability certificates. With the three new such cases, the total cases touched 11 on Thursday.

Niranjan Mishra, principal of BJB Autonomous College, said they had sent 102 PwD certificates to chief district medical and public health officers (CDMPHOs) of 23 districts for verification. “In the first phase, eight certificates were detected as fake. Now three more cases have been found,” he added.

On April 28, Rajdhani College, another sought after college of the capital city, had lodged an FIR against its six students for submitting fake PwD certificates.

The department first came to know about this forgery at Bhadrak (Autonomous) College in February this year. It had cancelled admission of 28 students from this college for producing fake PwD certificates during the admission for the sessions 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22.

On January 24, the state government had asked all 1,054 degree colleges under the higher education department for conducting verification and authentication of disability certificates of students who have taken admission during the academic session 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22.

A senior medical officer said the person, who does this forgery, scans the original one and edit the name in and other details on the certificate through software and prints it. It looks exactly similar to the original, he added.

“After verification, if students are found to have taken admission with fake certificates, appropriate action must be taken against the students to cancel their admission immediately,” said the official sources.
