Ahmedabad Police arrested a 25-year-old man after animal meat was found on road near a temple in Isanpur area of the city on Friday.

Tension erupted in the area following the discovery of animal meat, with local residents demanding arrest of those responsible for the slaughter. Hindu organisations also gave a bandh call in the area.

Soon after, the police jumped into action and registered an FIR in connection with the case. The police scanned CCTV footage of the area and on the basis of it the Ahmedabad Crime Branch arrested Mohammad Faizan Sheikh in connection with the case.

The police have sent the meat sample for Forensic Science Laboratory Division (FSL) report and increased security in the area to prevent any untoward incident.

According to sources in the police department, Sheikh claimed that he was transporting meat to another place when it fell on the road. The accused claimed that he did not get down to pick up the fallen piece as he feared assault by people and fled from the spot.

Further investigation in the case is underway.
