Another Hit-And-Drag Case In Delhi: Car Rams Scooter, Carries Rider For 350m. One Dead

New Delhi: One person was killed and another hospitalised after a car rammed into a scooter and dragged a rider on its roof for around 350m in Delhi, news agency ANI reported.

According to a report by ANI, the incident took place after a car rammed into a scooty and dragged a rider on its roof for about 350 m when he landed on it after being thrown into the air due to the impact of the collision.

A video of the incident has surfaced online after CCTV footage of the incident came to light and is going viral across the social media platforms.

According to the ANI report, five people have been arrested and an FIR has been registered at Keshav Puram Police Station.

“During patrolling between Prerna Chowk and Kanhaiya Nagar late at night on Jan 26, PCR van noticed that a car hit a scooty due to which the person on the pillion fell to the ground and the rider’s head got stuck between the car’s windshield and the bonnet,” Usha Rangnani, DCP North West said.

“Still, the five occupants didn’t stop the car and dragged the rider and the scooty for 300-350 metres. PCR van chased them and nabbed two accused, rest three fled. Later they were arrested. Accused were apparently drunk. Rider of scooty died in hospital and the one in pillion hospitalised. Probe is underway,” DCP added.

It is to be noted that a similar case last month led to statewide outrage after a woman was killed after she was hit by a vehicle and dragged by the car after her leg got entangled in one of the car’s wheels in Delhi.

In a similar incident, a 24-year-old man riding a motorcycle was killed after being hit by a car and dragged for almost 12km after being stuck under a four-wheeler in Surat district of Gujarat.

According to the news agency PTI, the hit-and-run occurred on the night of January 18 on the Kadodara-Bardoli road as the victim, later identified as Sagar Patil, was riding the bike with his wife in the rear seat.

“On the night of last Wednesday, Sagar Patil was riding a motorcycle with his wife Ashviniben on pillion when a speeding car hit the two-wheeler, but the driver did not stop and continued to drive. The woman fell. Patil was not found at the spot and was rushed to a hospital,” Hitesh Joysar, superintendent of police in Surat (Rural) was quoted as saying by PTI.
