Amid the rising tension in the Taiwan Strait over a visit to the island by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, China is conducting its military exercises with live fire in the southern part of the Yellow Sea. The military exercises started on August 6 and will end on August 15.

According to the Lianyungang Maritime Safety Administration, the drills will last from 8:00 am (local time) to 06:00 pm (local time), said Zhang Meifang, Consul General of China.

Also, the drill in the Bohai Sea will be held from August 8 to September 8, the Maritime Safety Administration said in a statement.

“China will conduct a live-fire shooting drill in the southern waters of the Yellow Sea from Aug 6 to Aug 15, 8:00 to 18:00 daily. Entry will be prohibited, said Lianyungang Maritime Safety Administration on Saturday,” Zhang Meifang, Consul General of China, tweeted.

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan amid ‘warnings’ from China. Pelosi landed in Taipei on Tuesday night and met Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen reiterating US commitment to the island’s democracy. Irked by Pelosi’s visit, China also held military drills near Taiwan’s shores.
