CJI DY Chandrachud’s reply after advocate cites wife’s birthday to defer case hearing

Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud has granted permission to a Supreme Court advocate to hear a case after January 13, 2023, after the latter cited his wife’s birthday as the reason.

The rough conversation between the advocate and CJI Chandrachud was tweeted by Bar & Bench. The conversation went like this: the advocate requested a date after January 13, 2023, for a case hearing, and CJI Chandrachud responded by asking what the reason is and whether it is an auspicious date suggested by an astrologer.

The advocate then responded that it was his wife’s birthday on the specified date. After that, the CJI smiles and said, “Very valid reason.” And he told his staff, “13th ke baad list kariye” (list this after the 13th).

The Twitter comments for the post appear to be hilarious, with users mentioning that these days, wives’ birthday dates are more important than anything else. According to one user, “Wife birthdays have now become the most important dates in life….even yamraj will concede.” According to Hindu mythology, Yamraj is a God of Death.
