BENGALURU: When the results of JEE (Advanced) were announced on Sunday morning, a middle-class home in north Bengaluru’s Sahakaranagar erupted in joy. Shishir RK, son of Krishna Kumar RV, a production manager with TOI-Bengaluru for more than 20 years, had topped the country. His mother V Krupa Rani is a homemaker.
Shishir, from Narayana e-techno school, Vidyaranyapura, has secured 314 marks out of 360. “My goal was to get a seat in top-notch IITs and Covid-19 didn’t affect me in anyway. In fact, it helped me prepare well,” said Shishir, who wants to study computer engineering at IIT-Bombay.
“I’m excited about IIT-B for its startup culture and also because it has produced some great entrepreneurs. Computers have always excited me, and it, thus, became a natural choice for me. But I want to do something with startups,” he added.
For the 18-year-old who was at times weighed down by sheer exhaustion and endless months of preparations for the big entrance exam, Sunday marked a successful culmination of his efforts. Within a couple of hours of the announcement of the results, Shishir and his family were flown to Hyderabad by the Narayana group for celebrations at the school’s headquarters.
Shishir said he had expected to be among top five. “I used to study from 6.30am to 8pm every day, including school hours. Eight hours of sleep was important for me as only then I could concentrate on lectures the next day. After 8pm, I used to play games or watch YouTube videos or educational videos given my love for mathematics,” he said.
The boy, who stood fourth in the Karnataka CET , has been with Narayana school since class 6. His preparations for JEE started when he was in class 8. He scored 90.6% in class 10 and 96.2% in class 12 exams. The real preparations, he said, began when he was in class 11.
