‘Govt Of India Under Leadership Of PM Modi Has Given Us Breath Of Life’: Ranil Wickremesinghe

New Delhi: Newly-elected Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe on Wednesday thanked the Government of India and Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi for providing assistance to crisis-hit Sri Lanka, reported news agency ANI. “I wish to specially mention the assistance provided by India, our closest neighbour, in our efforts for economic revitalisation,” Wickremesinghe told the news agency. The Sri Lankan President conveyed his gratitude on behlaf of the people of the island nation to PM Modi, Government of India, and the people of India. 

“Govt of India under the leadership of PM Modi has given us a breath of life. On behalf of my people & that of my own, I convey our gratitude to PM Modi, Govt & the people of India,” said the Sri Lankan President. 

After months of economic and political turmoil in the island nation, Ranil Wickremesinghe who was elected as the new Sri Lankan President last month, will inaugurate the new session of Parliament today. The Sri Lankan Parliament will meet for the first session under President Wickremesinghe today. 

Wickremesingh served as acting President of Sri Lanka before being elected as the Premier after former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled the nation to Maldives along with his wife. 

Sri Lanka has been experiencing unparalleled economic crisis, the worst in seven decades, with millions unable to purchase food, medication, fuel, and other necessities.
