The India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) regional centre in Odisha issued heavy to very heavy rainfall for several districts of the state till July 26. The weather department issued an orange alert in the districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, and Sonepu for today, July 23.
Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places in the districts of Koraput, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Bolangir, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati and Rayagada.
The cyclonic circulation over Jharkhand and its neighbourhood now lies over north Odisha, informed the IMD on Friday.
The Odisha special commissioner instructed districts under orange and yellow alert to remain in readiness for any incidents of water logging or landslides in hilly areas. The district administrations have been advised to keep a vigil in low lying areas.
Fishermen have been instructed not to venture out to the sea.
