Jamia Hamdard organises National Alternative Dispute Resolution Fest 2023


NEW DELHI: Hamdard Institute of Legal Studies & Research (HILSR), School of Law, Jamia Hamdard is organising Concordia: National ADR Fest 2023 from March 17-19, 2023. The Fest comprises of competitions like a National Debate Competition and National Client Counselling Competition.
The Inauguration Ceremony of the Fest took place on Friday at the Jamia Hamdard Campus. The fest began with the laying down of the foundation stone of the New Law School Building by the chief guest of the day, Ms Justice Hima Kohli, Judge, Supreme Court of India, in the presence of Janab Hammad Ahmed, Chancellor and Prof. (Dr.) M. Afshar Alam, Vice Chancellor, Registrar S.S. Akhtar along with the Dean, School of Law, Prof. (Dr.) Saleena K. Basheer, and Ms Naazish Fatima, Faculty Convener of the ADR Board.

Thereafter, the dignitaries proceeded to the Hamdard Convention Centre wherein they, along with the Guest of Honour, Hon’ble Mr Justice Deepak Gupta, Former Judge, Supreme Court of India received the Guard of Honour. This was followed by the official ceremony which began with the welcome address of Prof. (Dr.) Saleena K. Basheer, Dean, School of Law and the felicitation of dignitaries along with the faculty and student organisers.
After the felicitation, the Guest of Honour, Hon’ble Mr Justice Deepak Gupta discussed about the importance of the preamble and the basic structure of the Constitution and addressed the gathering. This was followed by the address of the Chief Guest of the day, Hon’ble Ms Justice Hima Kohli who emphasised on the need and importance of ADR along with their various modes and the role of AI in ADR in today’s time. Justice Kohli emphasized the importance of mediation and Lok Adalats. In the end, Justice Hima Kohli also suggested the University set up a Mediation Desk along with training programmes.

After that, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) M. Afshar Alam delivered the presidential address wherein he discussed the importance of ADR and wished the best, to participating teams of the National Events. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms Naazish Fatima, Faculty Convener of the ADR Board who thanked all the dignitaries and the participants for their presence. Other dignitaries including Dr Sarfaraz Ahsan, Deputy Registrar, Prof. Sarwar Alam, Chief Proctor, Ms Heena Parveen, Advocate Kailash Vasdev, Advocate Shreyans Singhvi, Mr Azhar Ali Khan, Md. Tauhid Alam and many others.
