  • Manager Erik ten Hag asked the players to better their attitude

Manchester United are set to take on Liverpool on Monday 22 August. Both clubs have not had the ideal start in the current season of the Premier League, with United failing to pick up a single point at the moment and Liverpool failing to win either of their two games.

However, United possibly have more problems than the Premier League runners-ups, after two embarrassing losses against rivals of much lower stature than themselves. Manager Erik ten Hag has called upon his players to show a better attitude on Monday and said that he will be discussing tactics with the players, once their attitude on the pitch improves.

“I think I made myself clear I was definitely not happy,” Ten Hag said in the press conference ahead of the game.

“You can talk about football, you can talk about the plan, philosophy but it starts with the basic stuff, the right attitude, fighting attitude and I didn’t see that from minute one,” he further added.

He said that a lot went wrong when United conceded four goals in the first 45 minutes, but pointed out that one has to bring a competitive attitude in every game.

“You have a plan, a way of playing and then you check how the game went and then you clearly analyse and see what’s wrong and what’s good,” he said.

“Obviously, a lot went wrong but we don’t have to talk about anything when the attitude is not right,” he further added.

“You have to bring it in every game on the pitch, especially Monday night,” the manager said.

United vs Liverpool will be a litmus test for the home side at Old Trafford. The club has recently been in the middle of the media spotlight with the club owners’ reportedly trying to sell p[art ownership of the club, Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly trying to leave the club and United not able to make the required signings planned at the start of the season.
