Nitish Kumar’s Aide RCP Singh Quits JDU Amid Growing Rift Over Corruption Charges

New Delhi: After a series of snubs from the party boss, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, former Union Minister RCP Singh resigned from the primary membership of Janata Dal United (JDU) on Saturday, as reported by news agency PTI. RCP Singh has taken this step amid allegations of corruption. Nitish Kumar’s party Janata Dal United today sought an explanation from its former national president RCP Singh on serious allegations of corruption leveled by some party workers.

Party’s state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha had sought a reply from former Union minister RCP Singh. Singh’s term in the Rajya Sabha ended recently but the party did not send him to the House again.

“The allegations are a conspiracy by those who envied my getting inducted into the Union cabinet. I would like to tell them that those living in glass houses must not hurl stones at others. I also hereby give up my primary membership of the party,” RCP Singh said.

“Whenever my party workers or their family members have been in some trouble, I have offered help to them. If you have resentment against me, deal with me,” he added.

RCP Singh, an IAS officer of UP cadre, first came in contact with Nitish when he was posted as private secretary to the then Union Minister Beni Prasad Verma in 1996. The friendship between Nitish Kumar and RCP Singh also deepened because both are from Nalanda in Bihar. It is also said that Nitish Kumar was greatly influenced by RCP Singh’s role as a bureaucrat.
