Parliament: Over 2,500 Kashmiri Migrants Given Jobs Under Govt Special Scheme, Says Minister

Over 2,500 Kashmiri migrants have been provided with jobs under the Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP), Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said in Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

The PMDP is a restructuring Rs 80,068 crore package announced by PM Narendra Modi in 2015. It was based on five pillars — Humanitarian Relief, Crisis Management, Social Infrastructure Development Projects and Economic Infrastructure. Rai in a written reply during Parliament’s Winter Session said: “As many as 2,639 government jobs have been provided to Kashmiri migrants under the Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP), 2015.”

Rai also informed Parliament that the government has approved construction of 6,000 transit accommodation for Kashmiri migrant employees who are engaged or will be engaged in different departments of government of Jammu and Kashmir.

Rai said that in order to address the grievances of Kashmiri migrants the J&K government launched a portal last year. Moreover, the Centre reimburses the J&K government to provide various facilities to the eligible Kashmiri migrants settled in Jammu, he said.
