PM Modi To Interact With CWG 2022 Medal Winners At His Residence Today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will greet all of the Commonwealth 2022 Games medal winners at his official home on Saturday at 11 am, news agency ANI reported.

After their outstanding performance in Birmingham, the Prime Minister will meet the Commonwealth Games champions in person for the first time.

Taking to Twitter, PM Modi stated: “Looking forward to interacting with India’s CWG 2022 contingent at my residence, 13th August at 11 AM. The entire nation is proud of the accomplishments of our athletes at the games.”

PM Modi has already congratulated every athlete who has earned a medal for his nation. The Prime Minister used his official Twitter account to thank Indian competitors who had won gold during the event. PM Modi also wished those who did not finish on the podium.

Nearly 200 Indian competitors competed for medals in 16 different sports at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham from July 28 to August 8.

India finished fourth in the Commonwealth Games 2022 medal count, with 61 medals (22 gold, 16 silver and 23 bronze). Wrestling led the medal count with 12 medals, including six gold, while weightlifting had ten.

India has recorded the fourth-best showing in Commonwealth Games history, winning a total of 101 medals when the games were staged at home in 2010.

The Indian women’s cricket team also made history by taking silver in the CWG’s first-ever T20 tournament.

Nikhat Zareen’s gold medal win was one of the biggest highlights of the massive event.

Zareen said she is delighted to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and would grab his autograph on her boxing gloves after earning a medal in the final of the women’s 50kg Light Flyweight division.

Nikhat Zareen, an Indian boxer and world champion, defeated Carly MC Naul of Northern Ireland in the women’s 50kg (Light Flyweight) final on Sunday.

“I am very excited to meet Prime Minister Modi; I took a selfie with him last time and want a new one now. Last time, I took his autograph on my T-shirt, now I will take it on my boxing gloves,” Nikhat Zareen had told ANI after winning the gold on August 07.

On Monday, the Commonwealth Games 2022 concluded with a spectacular closing ceremony at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium.

The Governor of Victoria was honoured with the Commonwealth Games flag. The Commonwealth Games will be held in the Australian state of Victoria in 2026.
