Prison Admin’s Fault, Reports To Political System: Kiran Bedi On Satyendar Jain’s Jail Videos

New Delhi: Former IPS officer Kiran Bedi on Wednesday targeted the Aam Aadmi Party and its jailed minister Satyendar Jain over the latter’s video having a platter of meal and getting massage inside Tihar jail saying that how will the party take action when their own minister is in jail, reported news agency ANI.

“It’s the prison administration’s fault, it reports to the political system. How will they take action when their own minister is jailed? If rules permit, the Lieutenant Governor can recommend his suspension/dismissal to the President,” said Bedi, once a member of India Against Corruption Movement along with AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal.

Earlier today, a video of Jain had come to the fore where he could be seen having a platter of meal inside Tihar Jail, a day after another video of him had come where he was seen getting massage from another inmate.

“Maybe he didn’t know there are cameras everywhere in Tihar jail. Everything is being recorded. It should be checked if he is also being given a salary. If he is drawing a monthly salary, what is he doing? Has he opened an office in jail? Who allowed it?,” she said.

The party and minister have been on the target of Bharatiya Janata Party since the videos surfaced.

Union leader and BJP MP from New Delhi Meenakshi Lekhi also fired salvo at the party and the minister.

“Jail meant to house a criminal should be dealt with in a strict manner,” said Lekhi. “There’s food being served on a platter, masseur facility is available, it isn’t a luxury resort,” she said.

Targeting the Aam Aadmi Party, Lekhi said, “Those who give character certificates to others have their own character getting exposed.”

The video came at a time when Jain had claimed that he was not getting privileges like proper food and medical check-ups in Tihar jail and that his weight had reduced by 28 kgs.

However, Advocate Zohaib Hossain, appearing for ED, denied the allegations made by Satyendar Jain’s lawyer and said that there is not a single leak from the Enforcement Directorate. “We will see that the guilty are brought to justice,” the advocate said.
