Rohit Sharma & Others Set To Receive Massive Salary Hike; Rahane & Ishant To Be Dropped

Fresh reports surrounding the sporting sphere claim that members of the Indian cricket team are set to receive a salary hike from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). While Rohit Sharma & Co. have featured in more number of matches in the last few years, they have not received an increased salary despite the Indian Cricket Board generating massive revenue from the sale of two new franchises last year.

However, while those contracted with the BCCI are likely to get the benefit as per an Inside Sport report, it is being learnt that some of the players who are currently in the contract list may be dropped. Among the names doing the rounds in media reports including the one carried by News18, are veterans Ajinkya Rahane and Ishant Sharma along with Hanuma Vihari- all of whom haven’t been part of India’s Test plans lately.

Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav set to receive promotions

In addition, as per the same report, Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav are expected to get a promotion. While the star all-rounder could replace Rohit Sharma as the captain in the T20I format, Suryakumar has been one of the highest run-getters for India in international cricket this calendar year. Both Hardik and Suryakumar are currently under the Grade C bracket and could even earn a double promotion.

How much is BCCI currently playing contracted men’s cricketers?

As it stands, the men’s cricketers in the A+ category are receiving a whopping 7 crore annually apart from their match fees. Similarly, those in A category, receive 5 crore annually while players in B bracket receive 3 crore. C category contracted cricketers get 1 crore per annum other than their match fees. Currently, only Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah fall in the A+ category.

The Indian men’s cricket team is currently in Bangladesh where they lost the ODI series but are 1-0 up in the 2-match Test series. KL  Rahul will lead India in the second Test match in the absence of Rohit whose injured thumb is yet to heal completely. The second Test will commence at the Sher-E-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka on December 22 (Thursday).
