New Delhi: With their victory at the 80th Golden Globe Awards, SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ team attracted a lot of media attention. The historical drama by SS Rajamouli received two Golden Globe nominations on Tuesday night.
Fans could not stop rejoicing over Naatu Naatu’s win in the Best Original Song category, but they also could not overlook Jr. NTR’s red carpet moment. The team responded to a few questions from the media, but Jr. NTR received the most attention. It’s all because of his accent, which was really western.
In a now viral video, Jr. NTR can be seen speaking of the movie and Naatu Naatu, the ‘RRR’ song.
“We thought, taking Rajamouli’s track record into consideration, we definitely thought we had a winner. But this was something more than a winner in Japan and today, America… come on, you don’t expect this to happen,” the actor said.

As soon as the video was uploaded to Reddit, everyone seemed to be critiquing Jr. NTR’s accent. While some people went on to take a dig at his ‘fresh accent’, other tried to defend the actor.
“Can Indians stop mocking other Indians for their accents? A lot of these goras do not understand our normal accent and they can also make some of us feel intimidated. Imagine being an Indian at the Oscars. Just cut him some slack! The guy is a solid one and a good actor. It’s his moment and well-earned. He can speak however he wishes to,” wrote an user.
Here is what Reddit users had to say about it:
Meanwhile, Jr. NTR and Ram Charan’s dance number Naatu Naatu was up against Rihanna’s Lift Me Up from ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ and Taylor Swift’s Carolina from ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’. It also faced competition from Lady Gaga’s Hold My Hand from ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Pinocchio’.
Rajamouli’s film was also nominated in the Best Non-English Language Film category as well, but ‘Argentina, 1985’, won.
