An array of celebrated fashion designers presented their new collections at the FDCI India Couture Week 2022. The coveted extravaganza, which was held in the physical format for the first time since the pandemic began, concluded in New Delhi this weekend and witnessed a plethora of wedding fashion trends that are all set to rule the forthcoming shaadi season.
While the Indian craft continues to be the core of the Indian wedding wear scene, the play of experimental silhouettes, bold elements, unconventional hues and, of course, the comfort quotient is making it all the more interesting and fashion-forward. Well, here are the top 5 trends we spotted for brides and grooms-to-be at the Indian Couture Week 2022:
Aditi Rao Hydari in an Anju Modi creation.
Reds and pinks are surely the quintessential Indian ‘bridal colours’, but the ace designers with their new collections reaffirmed the dominance of contemporary hues for modern brides. Think of ivories, mustard yellow, greens and subtle golden.
Aditi Rao Hydari, who turned showstopper for designer Anju Modi at the India Couture Week 2022 put forth a bridal look that was drenched in regalia but also boasted a touch of contemporariness with that mustard-and-green colour combination.
Indian brides, including a few celebrities, have also been rooting for unconventional hues for their wedding wear. Remember Alia Bhatt’s ivory and gold Sabyasachi saree?
POCKETS FOR BRIDAL WEAR
A gown with pockets? Big yes!
Now, this one is rather good news! More and more designers are finally recognising the need for pockets in bridal ensembles and we got a hearty glimpse of the same at the recently-concluded India Couture Week as well.
Several designers such as Anita Dongre have been rooting for the idea of pockets in lehengas, but the much-needed trend has certainly gained momentum now.
GLITZ & GLAM FOR GROOMS
Arjun Kapoor in a Kunal Rawal creation at ICW 2022.
The India Couture Week 2022 was a fabulous spectacle of how the Indian groom fashion scenario is evolving and ready for ‘experimentation’ more than ever before! Why should brides have all the fun, right?
For grooms, it is time to move over classic sherwanis and embrace that touch of glitz instead. Sparkling outfits for men? Yes, we mean that! Arjun Kapoor was a perfect example as he walked the ramp for designer Kunal Rawal in a dazzling black ensemble.
THE SULTRY BLOUSES
The focus is on blouses, more than ever before! Sara Ali Khan in a Falguni and Shane Peacock creation.
Blouses have been one of the most neglected and undermined aspect of bridal outfits. But, no more! New-age brides are here to slay in the most oomph-exuding and barely-there blouses. At the ICW 2022, designers presented a galore of modish blouses featuring sultry elements such as plunging necklines, flossing, edgy sleeves, bare back, spaghetti sleeves and more!
MAXIMALIST JEWELS FOR MEN
Rajkummar Rao rocks heavy jewels with an Anamika Khanna ensemble.
We told you, the groom fashion scenario is at its experimental best! And another big trend that we noticed at the couture show is the return of maximalist jewels for men. Nope, not the regular emerald and pearl string that we see grooms donning. But, heavy and dazzling necklaces, as ornate as exquisite bridal jewels!
We saw Rajkummar Rao leading with example as he walked the runway for Anamika Khanna in a black ensemble accentuated with a heavy haar.
