Virat Kohli Controversy Virender Sehwag Tweets Amid Growing Calls For Virat’s Ouster From T20 Squad

New Delhi: Former India captain Virat Kohli’s unruly form in international cricket continued. The senior batter managed to score just 11 runs in Ind vs Eng 3rd T20I on Sunday after being caught by Jason Roy. Virat, playing his first T20 game after February 2022, could score just 12 runs in two T20Is (2nd & 3rd). The last time Virat had scored a ton in international cricket was almost three years ago in 2019. Amid growing calls from angry fans and cricket experts for Virat’s ouster from India’s T20 squad, ex-India opener Virender Sehwag, without directly naming Kohli, posted an ominous tweet. In his tweet, the legendary opener urged to find a way to include players in the team who can fire from the start.

“India has so many batsman who can get going from the start , some of them are unfortunately sitting out. Need to find a way to play the best available players in current form in T20 cricket. #IndvEng,” tweeted Sehwag.

Sharing views on the ongoing situation regarding Kohli, ex-India pacer Venkatesh Prasad said players who aren’t in form should be dropped for a “larger good”.

1983 World Cup-winnig captain Kapil Dev told ABP News that if a bowler of spinner Ravichandran Ashwin’s calibre could be dropped from Test side, so could Virat Kohli. “If world No. 2 Test bowler Ashwin can be dropped from Test side then your No. 1 batter can also be dropped,” the veteran had said.

However, skipper Rohit Sharma backed Kohli and said: “The T20Is that I’ve seen, especially when you’re chasing a squad like that and you come out and bat the way he did it, it shows the quality of a batsman.

“Honestly, we were three down and we wanted to dig in, get that partnership going and bat as long as possible. He pretty much did everything right today. Just slightly disappointed that it couldn’t be right till the end, but nothing taking away from that kind of knock.

“You don’t get to see that every now and then. So, we will take that with both hands as a team and I’m pretty sure about him as well. He’ll be very happy with how we responded to that situation where he went to bat in.”
